Ask Your Representative to Support the African Health Capacity Investment Act of 2007

The African Health Capacity Investment Act of 2007 (S. 805 and H.R. 3812) addresses Africa’s health workforce crisis, a central obstacle to meeting global health commitments, including for HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria.

The passage of this bill will provide up to $600 million dollars to be spent over the next 3 years to support fiscal management, training, recruiting and retention of health workers, distribution of resources, attention to rural areas, and education.

If your Representative is not already a co-sponsor, please urge them to do so. If your Representative is a co-sponsor, thank them for their support and encourage them to ensure passage of and full funding for the bill.

Current Status

  • S.805, the Senate version, recently cleared a committee and awaits a vote by the full Senate. We urge you to continue contacting your Senators about this bill.
  • H.R. 3812, the House version, was introduced by Representative Lee (D-CA) with 21 co-sponsors. Contact your Representative and ask them to support this bill.

Ask Your Representative to Co-Sponsor the Global Health Resolution S.CON.RES.31

The Feingold-Sununu Global Health Resolution (S.CON.RES.31) calls for a comprehensive and integrated global health agenda that expands resources and commitment to not only the fight against HIV/AIDS, but also to the fight against childhood deaths, maternal deaths, and the spread of other infectious diseases will help build a more stable and healthy world.

Call and ask your Senator to show his/her support for global health by co-sponsoring S. CON. RES. 31 and H.CON.RES 247. Use the online congressional directory or call the U.S. Capitol Switchboard at (202)224-3121 and ask for your Senators’ office.

Current Status
The resolution was referred to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee in May 2007 and the House Foreign Affairs Committee in November 2007.

The Global Child Survival Act of 2007 (S.1418, H.R.2266) seeks to expand the use of proven, cost-effective, live saving interventions for more than six million children.

Current Status

  • This bill has been introduced with bipartisan support in both chambers.
  • H.R. 2266 has been referred to the House Committee on Foreign Affairs.
  • S. 1418 has been referred to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
